II. How to set machining conditions

"Ⅰ. About electric discharge machining"

"III. How to design electrodes"

1. What are machining conditions?

Machining situation is changed by voltage, current, duration, etc. of the spark. Machining speed, size of craters, etc can change by varying "machining conditions".

<Main elements of machining conditions>

τon (tau on)
This is also called "pulse width". It means duration of the spark.
It is shown by unit of μSec (microseconds: 1 / million seconds) and is set in the range of around 0 ~ 1000 μSec.
τoff (tau off)
It is also called "downtime". EDM discharges intermittent sparks. It means the downtime after each sparking.
It is set in the range of around 0 ~ 1000 μSec.
Open voltage
It means the voltage applied between the electrode and the workpiece.
It is shown in unit of V (volt), and is set in the range of around 50 ~ 300V.
Peak current value
It means the electric current value of the spark.
It is shown in unit of A (Amp), and is set in the range of around 0 ~ 500A.
